The origins of street art were strongly influenced by the desire to reclaim public space and use it to criticize societal and social phenomena. Anger and outrage at the established order were the driving forces behind using art to strengthen grassroots movements, give a voice to the unheard, and denounce systemic injustices. Far removed from decorative murals, the endless regurgitation of pop art clichés, and desperately repetitive ego branding, British-Australian sculptor Will Coles has not allowed himself to be swayed from his subversive attitude. He came back in Hamburg. Still angry.
