Faouzi Al Kabbany has worked with black for many years. In his painting, black is not a color but a space. Surface, depth, and materiality create tensions that unfold through slow looking. The works do not dictate meaning; they open a field in which perception can emerge.

With the series SEPTEM | SIGNA, Al Kabbany extends this practice by introducing an iconographic element. The works remain abstract, yet refer to one of the oldest symbolic orders in European tradition: the archangels. Their signs appear as reduced forms—less motifs than traces.

They stand for principles such as measure, responsibility, care, and hope—not as moral claims, but as quiet orders within the pictorial space.

Black becomes a precise ground in which what is often obscured can reappear. The exhibition is complemented by selected earlier works. It will be on view from April to June in the striking three-storey semi-circular hall of the Grundbuchhalle at the Hamburg Regional Court.
