Hauke Jessen is an exceptional sculptor. His work is classical and detailed, yet whimsical and ironic. His sculptures seem detached from time, were it not for the constant references to the present. When you see the figurines, portraits, and surroundings created by the Hamburg-based sculptor, you feel poetically dizzy. They reveal his longstanding exploration of the aesthetics of sacred motifs in connection with the advent of modernism in classical art.
